Fear Is Healthy – Today’s Quote

Fear is a healthy instinct, not a sign of weakness. It is a natural self-defense mechanism that is common to felines, wolves, hyenas, and most humans. Even fruit bats know fear, and I salute them for it. If you think the world is weird now, imagine how weird it would be if wild beasts had no fear.

Ablow on Addiction – Today’s Quote

Yup, our nation’s getting high, not just obese. Food is just one handy drug, among many. And all the while the Iranians, who generally seem pretty slim and aren’t known for drinking much, and don’t care a whole lot about Kim Kardashian or Charlie Sheen or Lindsay Lohan, are building a nuclear bomb. And all the while the Egyptians, who don’t seem to have much interest in defending American interests, are coalescing around the Muslim Brotherhood.

Powell On Rationality – Today’s Quote

It ain’t as bad as you think. It will look better in the morning.

Former Secretary of State, National Security Adviser and General (RET) Colin Powell

Blinded By Science – Today’s Quote

I repeat: I’m not a global warming believer. I’m not a global warming denier.  I’ve long believed that it cannot be good for humanity to be spewing tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.  I also believe that those scientists who pretend to know exactly what this will cause in 20, 30 or 50 years are white-coated propagandists.

“The debate is settled,” asserted propagandist in chief [President] Barack Obama in his latest State of the Union address. “Climate change is a fact.”  Really?  There is nothing more anti-scientific than the very idea that science is settled, static, impervious to challenge.

Dr. Charles Krauthammer, Physician, Commentator and former speech writer for Vice President Walter Mondale via The myth of ‘settled science’ – The Washington Post

Equal Treatment Isn’t Discrimination – Today’s Quote

Once, when I was teaching at an institution that bent over backward for foreign students, I was asked in class one day: “What is your policy toward foreign students?”  My reply was: “To me, all students are the same. I treat them all the same and hold them all to the same standards.”  The next semester there was an organized boycott of my classes by foreign students.  When people get used to preferential treatment, equal treatment seems like discrimination.

Too Unjust To Tolerate – Today’s Quote

…too unjust to tolerate

Attorney General Eric Holder, Our nation’s senior law enforcement official bemoaning the fact that many States bar felons from voting via Holder: State Laws That Bar Felons From Voting Are ‘Too Unjust to Tolerate’

Andrew’s Note:  I can think of lots of situations that are ‘too unjust to tolerate’ but I don’t think felon disenfranchisement rises to that level.  I can think of a few situations that do though…like suing States to keep them from enforcing laws that are substantially similar to Federal laws, refusing to pr0secute voter intimidation at polling places based on racial preferences/discrimination, using the instruments of government to bar States from assuring the integrity of the ballot box or standing by while the U.S. assassinates U.S. citizens overseas without due process (Anwar al-Awlaki was a bad man and I don’t mourn him but I do mourn the death of the ‘due process’).

Bring Photo ID – Today’s Quote

DO bring photo identification (driver’s license, passport or other valid photo ID) with you and keep it on your persons at all times.

NAACP directions for those participating in a protest against requiring photo ID to enter a ballot box

Andrew’s Note:  So you need a photo ID to enter a Federal Building, cash a check, enter a military base and even attend a protest but not to exercise your vote…what’s more important!

Human Stupidity – Today’s Quote

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I’m not sure about the former.

Albert Einstein

Andrew’s Note:  Human Stupidity:  A situation where a human or an entire society believes that this time…in spite of all historical evidence to the contrary… fascism/socialism/communism/centralized planning will result in positive outcomes

Equal Rights – Today’s Quote

If you believe in equal rights, then what do “women’s rights,” “gay rights,” etc., mean? Either they are redundant or they are violations of the principle of equal rights for all.

Dr. Thomas Sowell via Random Thoughts

Lewis on Progressive – Today’s Quote

We all want progress, but if you’re on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; in that case, the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive.

C.S. Lewis
